Love of Diagrams

Biography

With their first live shows in early 2001, LOVE OF DIAGRAMS made an immediate impact on the Australian music scene. Combining the experimentation of New York No Wave, with the immediacy and tunefulness of classic English Post Punk, LOVE OF DIAGRAMS arrived with their own fully formed sound based on these passions. Due to the innate musical affinity of the three players: the incredible driving beats of drummer Monika Fikerle, the intertwining, angular tag-team guitar / bass lines of Luke Horton and Antonia Sellbach, and passionate, immediate, call-and-response vocals, they have quickly become a hugely popular live sensation as well as a critical favourite.

They've been a busy band too. They released their debut album in 2003, The Target is You (on the Australian label Unstable Ape Records) to much critical acclaim, and followed this with an extensive two-month tour of Europe and Japan. Then, after touring nationally in Australia with the likes of Death Cab for Cutie, Electrelane, Les Savy Fav, Pretty Girls Make Graves, and The Rogers Sisters, they released a new EP We Got Communication (UAR) in early 2005. This EP contained the single, "No Way Out"which received high rotation on Australia's biggest youth radio station Triple J, (the video to the song also received high rotation on music video show 'Rage'). This single went on to receive airplay on many USA College radio stations and was re-released in November 2005 in the UK by the The Passport Label. "No Way Out"has also been featured in the new season of the hugely popular USA TV series "The OC"(the episode was aired in december '05 in the USA).

After touring the UK and USA throughout 2005, LOVE OF DIAGRAMS stopped off in Chicago in December to record a new album with legendary producer Bob Weston (Shellac/Mission of Burma) at Steve Albini's Electrical Audio studios. The new album, as yet untitled, is being mixed and mastered as we speak, and will be finished by the time the band plays the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas in March 2007.
